Wall-Mounted Folding Slat Bench
Building a wall-mounted folding bench (or fold-down laundry shelf) from wooden slats on a threaded rod
Video published Jan 28, 2026 by JASCOgoods
Startup cost: Low to moderate startup cost (miter saw, drill with a drill guide or press, plug cutter or dowels, clamps, sander; 1x3 pine, 1/4-inch threaded rod, screws, paste wax) (our estimate; the video doesn’t give figures)

What It Is
You build a bench that hangs on the wall and folds flat: 13 slats of 1x3 pine (seven at 12 inches and six at 10.5 inches) strung on a 1/4-inch threaded rod, with a front rail, back boards that lock it at 90 degrees, and a hinged leg that swings down to support it. The creator drills the rod holes with a homemade drill guide, spaces the slats with playing cards so they don't bind, plugs the screw holes with dowels, finishes it with paste wax and hangs it into studs about 18 inches up. Without the leg it works as a fold-down shelf for folding laundry. He shows similar Etsy benches at about $101-$189 and a seller in Turkey with 1.9K sales in a year and a half selling simple pieces like this for around $120.
The Pitch
The creator calls it high profit and one of the coolest builds on his channel, useful in small entryways for putting on shoes or on stairs. He uses the Etsy sellers to argue that people really do make money selling woodwork, though he says it's 'tool money,' not riches.
Who It’s Best For
An intermediate woodworker with patience for precise, repeated drilling who wants a higher-priced space-saving furniture piece.
The Truth (as we see it)
The creator says outright that he built it wrong: 1x3s in that orientation are too weak, he is afraid to sit on it, and he isn't confident the leg hinge will last, so he recommends 2x2 stock. Anything people sit on carries real injury and liability risk, so test your design hard before selling it. The prices and the 1.9K sales are other sellers' public numbers. The video names and links a drill guide in the description; it doesn't say whether these are affiliate links. A bench is heavy to ship.
