What It Is
You cut two identical side pieces from 1x8 pine using a paper template stuck on with repositionable glue, drill a hole in each for a 12-inch, 7/8-inch dowel, and the sides plus dowel become a stand that holds a laptop on top and a keyboard underneath. Flipped on end, it holds a closed laptop upright against the wall, and it comes apart to pack in a backpack. The creator ties it to back-to-school season and shows Etsy best-sellers of similar laptop stands at about $45, $39 and $75, each marked as in 20-plus shopping carts.
The Pitch
The creator's main lesson is to watch the calendar: plan seasonal products like back-to-school items before the season arrives. He says almost anyone could use a laptop stand, not just students, and suggests plywood and a router or CNC once you settle on a design.
Who It’s Best For
A woodworker with a bandsaw or jigsaw who wants a seasonal desk product and is willing to plan listings a month or two ahead.
The Truth (as we see it)
The prices shown are other sellers' Etsy listings, and the 'in 20-plus carts' badge does not show actual sales; the creator says plainly he is not selling this himself and copied the idea to inspire viewers. His version is a first prototype, and he suggests plywood would be stronger than pine. He also shows a board grabbing his table saw blade during this build, a real kickback hazard. Laptop stands are a crowded category with cheap mass-made competition, so design and photos will matter, and you ship every order yourself.
