What It Is

You cut a single $4 2x4 into a set of pieces at fixed measurements, angle some of the ends at 30 degrees on a miter saw, sand, glue and screw them into a stepped Christmas tree shape on a base, then paint it. Two small offcut blocks become a day-countdown counter, with numbers traced on or applied from a roughly $6 pack of stickers. The creator says each tree costs about $10 in materials, takes about 30 minutes, and sells for around $35, for roughly $25 profit. He listed a batch of 10 on Etsy (with some Etsy and outside ads) and suggests Facebook Marketplace as a local, no-shipping option, timing listings for right after Halloween.

The Pitch

The creator pitches it as a quick, cheap seasonal project: at two trees an hour he works out about $50 an hour when selling in person. He says his Etsy listing got 194 visits and three interested buyers within a day, and expects about $250 profit from his batch of 10 for a few hours of work. He stresses that the day after Halloween is when Christmas decor shopping starts, so building stock early matters.

Who It’s Best For

Hobby woodworkers who already own a miter saw and drill and want a small seasonal side income from home.

The Truth (as we see it)

The cost and build numbers are concrete and believable for a simple 2x4 project, but the income is small and seasonal, and the sales figures are early, partial and the creator's own (interested buyers are not completed sales). Selling on Etsy adds shipping, packaging and roughly 10-15% fees, which he says forces a higher price, and his traffic came partly from paid ads. Simple, widely shared designs like this are easy for other sellers to copy, so competition can push prices down. The creator promotes his own paid woodworking community with plans and monthly project ideas.
