Wooden Wall Display Holders

What It Is

You make small wall-mounted display pieces from cheap lumber in a home workshop: a hat or wig stand from a 1x6 square, a hole-saw circle and a dowel; a 12.5-inch record album or picture holder cut from a 1x2 with an angled groove; and a glasses holder slotted from a cedar fence picket. Each needs only a few cuts, a keyhole slot or groove for flush hanging, sanding and a stain or oil finish. The creator shows Etsy best-sellers of the same items listed at about $15 for hat stands, $16-29 for album holders and $22 for glasses holders, with buyers paying shipping. He estimates about 35 glasses holders from one picket, or around $350 at $10 each.

The Pitch

The creator says these sell well because two of the three projects are a single piece of wood with a few cuts, with no gluing or joinery, so material cost is tiny and profit margins are high. He backs the demand claim by showing comparable Etsy listings marked as best-sellers and sitting in 20-plus shopping carts.

Who It’s Best For

Someone with basic woodworking skills and garage or shed space for a miter saw, table saw and router who wants a low-material handmade product to list online.

The Truth (as we see it)

The Etsy listings shown are real competitors' products and their prices, not the creator's own sales, so demand and margins are inferred rather than proven; the '20-plus carts' badge does not show actual sales numbers. Material cost is genuinely low, but the projects assume you already own or will buy a table saw, router or router table and safety gear, and the cuts carry real kickback and injury risk. Many sellers already offer these items, some from overseas at low prices, so photos, finish quality and shipping cost will decide whether yours sell, and you pack and ship every order yourself.
