Wall-Hung Dowel Spice Rack
Making a simple wall-hung wooden spice rack with a dowel rail to sell on Etsy
Video published Feb 28, 2026 by JASCOgoods
Startup cost: Low to moderate startup cost (table saw or circular saw, miter saw, drill with stop collar, pin nailer, sander; 1x8 pine, a 3/8-inch dowel, oil-based polyurethane) (our estimate; the video doesn’t give figures)

What It Is
You build a 24-inch open box spice rack from a 1x8 ripped to 4 inches, with 4-by-4-inch ends and a 3/8-inch dowel (about 70 cents) set 2 inches up across the front to keep jars from falling out. It hangs on the wall with keyhole slots, and you can make it longer or deeper for canned goods in a pantry. The creator shows a best-selling Etsy version in 14 carts, selling for $40-plus at 12 inches and about $100 at 24 inches, from a shop with 248 sales over a year and a half.
The Pitch
The creator says this best seller fills the same need as the viral over-stove shelf without its problems: no expensive metal pull, no fire or fit concerns, and it hangs anywhere. He calls the roughly $100 price for a 24-inch rack a really good profit for what it is.
Who It’s Best For
A beginner to intermediate woodworker with basic tools who wants a cheap, repeatable kitchen product.
The Truth (as we see it)
The prices, cart counts and the 248-sale shop are another seller's public numbers; the creator says he doesn't know how many of this item they sell. Materials are cheap, but your time, Etsy fees and shipping come out of the price. He is clear that you need research and marketing, not just a build and a listing, to make sales. You pack and ship every order yourself.
