Cedar Picket Birdhouse Planters

What It Is

You build planters from cedar fence pickets, one of the cheapest woods at the hardware store. The main design is a box planter with notched 2x2 legs and a back made of three pickets cut to 16, 17 and 20 inches with pointed tops, scored lines for texture, small roofs and drilled holes so they look like birdhouses behind the plants. The second is a 21-inch wall-hanging planter with a heart cut out of the top third and a raised slotted bottom with drain holes, which can sit on the ground or hang like a wall sconce. The creator uses waterproof Titebond III glue and suggests galvanized or stainless nails for outdoor use.
