Charred Wooden Cat Figurines

Charred wooden cat figurines batch-built from two pine boards

Video published Oct 10, 2026 by WhosTheVoss

Startup cost: Low startup cost (about $167 if you must buy every tool: jigsaw, drill, small router, bits, torch, sandpaper, stain)

What It Is

You trace a free cat template onto common pine boards, cut the shapes with a jigsaw, drill out the eyes, round the edges with a small router, char them with a utility torch and wipe on a golden oak stain. Two boards gave the creator 34 cats (17 large-and-small sets) in about two hours. He sells them for $6 each or $12 a set at local events and a friend's yard sale, timed for Halloween.

The Pitch

The creator says two boards of wood can pay for an entire beginner tool kit: on his numbers the 17 sets bring in about $204, leaving roughly $37 after buying every tool new, or about $196 profit per batch once you already own the tools ($8.37 in wood and supplies). He calls it repeatable, beginner friendly, fast to produce and easy to ship.

Who It’s Best For

A beginner woodworker with a garage or patio and a local craft fair, market or yard-sale scene to sell into, who enjoys small repetitive builds.

The Truth (as we see it)

The math is the creator's own and assumes every cat sells at full price; his sales happened at a busy local seasonal event, so results depend heavily on having a good place to sell. The small budget tools he bought work but are slow and tiring, and charring should be done outdoors for fire and smoke safety. This is a small seasonal side income, not a full-time business.
