Book Funnel for Coaching Clients
Self-hosted book funnel to get coaching and consulting clients
Video published Jul 30, 2026 by Brian Ellwood
Startup cost: Low startup cost (cost to write/print the book plus a funnel/checkout tool; ad or content budget optional to scale) (our estimate; the video doesn’t give figures)

What It Is
Instead of publishing a book on Amazon and hoping the algorithm surfaces it, sell the book yourself through your own funnel (a dedicated landing page, often a "free plus shipping" or low-cost front-end offer) so you keep the reader's contact information, then use follow-up (calls, email, content) to sell a high-ticket coaching or consulting offer behind it.
The Pitch
Ellwood describes going from $1,500 in his first six months as a real estate coach (after his first self-published book on Amazon sold almost nothing) to $88,000 in the next six months once he built a bookfunnel, drove traffic to it via podcast guest appearances, and manually followed up with buyers to sell his coaching program. He's since repeated the model with three more books, reports having earned close to $3 million in the coaching/expert world off the back of books, and cites several coaching clients (a real estate coach, a chiropractor-turned-nutrition-doctor, a former NFL player) who used the same funnel-then-upsell structure.
Who It’s Best For
Someone who already has, or is building, genuine coaching, consulting, or expert-level knowledge to sell, and is willing to write a short book as a lead-generation tool rather than a primary income source in itself.
The Truth (as we see it)
The core insight — a self-hosted funnel beats hoping Amazon's algorithm does the selling, and a cheap book's real job is capturing contact info for a high-ticket upsell — is a genuinely useful, well-established pattern in the coaching/consulting world, and Ellwood's account of his own slow, mistake-filled path to figuring it out is more honest than most. That said, this only works if there's a real high-ticket offer behind the book; the book itself makes very little money on its own (he says less than $10,000 total in Amazon royalties across his career), and the video is ultimately built to sell his own "Author Operating System" book and related paid training.
