What It Is
You go through the men's or women's racks at a thrift store looking for brand-name and stylish pieces priced around $2-$10, then photograph and list them on Depop, where similar items sell for $25-$50 or more. In the video the creator spent about two hours and $37 on a haul, then sold a Volcom windbreaker for $28, plus a Pepperdine polo, a Happy Dad hat and a Volcom shirt. You pack and ship each sale yourself, dropping parcels at the post office.
The Pitch
The creator says many people make a full-time income this way and that it was an easy way for him to make money in an earlier test. He presents it as a cheap next step once you have a little cash, since a small thrift budget can turn into several profitable sales.
Who It’s Best For
People who enjoy thrifting and know clothing brands and trends, and who can visit thrift stores regularly.
The Truth (as we see it)
Thrift-to-Depop reselling is a well-established side hustle, and the low-dollar results in the video are realistic: a few sales and profits of $6-$18 per item over the week. Margins depend heavily on your eye for brands and trends, much of what you buy may sit unsold, and sourcing trips take hours. Depop charges selling and payment fees that the video doesn't account for. Depop operates mainly in the US, UK and Australia.
