What It Is
Build and publish a "skill", a small instruction file or connected backend service, to ClawHub, the marketplace for the open-source AI agent tool OpenClaw, so that anyone using OpenClaw can add your skill to their own AI assistant, with the marketplace itself handling distribution the way an app store does.
The Pitch
Ottley breaks the opportunity into five tiers by defensibility and revenue potential: plain-text "expertise in a file" skills (sell for $10-50 once, but easily copied), utility skills that wrap a small script needing ongoing maintenance ($5-15/month, since you're paid to keep it working as things break), API-integration skills that teach the AI to talk to tools like HubSpot ($20-100 one-time or recurring), backend service skills where your own server does real work behind a thin skill file (real SaaS economics, cited example of 100 users at $19/month against $20-50/month in hosting costs), and proprietary-data skills backed by information nobody else has, which he frames as the most defensible long-term category.
Who It’s Best For
Someone comfortable at least experimenting with basic server setup and API concepts for the higher tiers, though the plain-text "expertise in a file" tier requires no coding at all and is a reasonable entry point.
The Truth (as we see it)
Ottley discloses he's promoting a specific hosting provider (with his own discount code) and his own paid community for further security guidance, both disclosed rather than hidden. He's candid that the lowest tier (plain-text skills) has essentially no moat since buyers can read and copy your instructions directly, and this is a genuinely new, unproven marketplace (OpenClaw itself is described as only weeks old at the time of the video), so the long-term durability of demand and the marketplace's own rules around monetization are both still unsettled.
